The Most Neglected Scuba Items Part 1

For over 36 years I have been servicing SCUBA diving equipment for sport diving, commercial diving and TEK diving. Year after year I ask myself the same question. Why do divers and dive operators become so neglectful of their life support equipment?
Most divers and dive operators know that you should have your gear serviced annually. For a busy diving operation that constantly rents out equipment, I would recommend that their gear be serviced more often.
When asked by the editor of Scuba Sport Magazine to write about the most neglected pieces of diving equipment, I did not have to think twice about my answer. But before I get to that; what is neglect?

How does a scuba diver know what would classify as neglecting their equipment? I don't think that equipment owners are doing it on purpose. It could simply be a case of "out of sight, out of mind". One of the most common responses I get from divers who have suffered an equipment malfunction is "I hadn't used my equipment since it was serviced last". How long ago was that?
