It surfaced next to us, took a couple of breaths and descended back into the blue water beneath us, then made a move to the north. Lucie followed and marked its second location.
We reformed the line with the whale directly underneath us. When it started its ascent, it appeared as if the whale was going to lift us out of the water. The huge adolescent turned slightly onto its side, looked up and saw us. With a slow, deliberate swipe of its tail, the whale passed directly underneath us by less than 10 feet, surfacing only a few feet from us. , ZDV ÀULQJ DZD\ GHVSHUDWHO\ KRSLQJ WKDW RQH RI WKH SLFWXUHV , ZDV WDNLQJ LQ UDSLG ÀUH fashion would come out nicely. The whale was so close, I was having trouble framing the entire animal with a 15mm Nikonos lens. How awesome is that??? boat as in the moment, we had travelled well over 200 yards from where we started.
That's what is so amazing about wall diving; anything in the ocean could swim by! If you are in the right place at the right time, you will have the experience of a lifetime. Being in the water with the whale was the exclamation point to an incredible week, diving all over the Turks and Caicos Islands.
